Jim is responsible for the firm's client development, marketing, client relations, and promotional activities. Media relations, brand identity, publicity, and special events fall within Jim's purview as well. Prior to joining Pierce Atwood, he spent nine years as Director, Marketing and Client Development at a major law firm in Philadelphia.
Prior to that experience, Jim held leadership roles in marketing and business development for law firms, publicly traded corporations, and consultancies. He has also held faculty appointments at The University of Texas, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Macalester College. Jim has extensive sales and marketing experience with substantial industry knowledge in legal services, insurance and risk management products, financial services, managed healthcare, higher education, and professional certification with a proven track record in creating business opportunities, developing prospects, and growing revenue.

Jim has made numerous presentations to industry trade associations, marketing professionals, and local business organizations on topics such as segmentation, industry trends, market strategy, technology and sales channels, client relations, and crisis communications.
He has also conducted seminars and practicum in marketing and business management for college credit at Wyeth (Pfizer), DuPont, and AstraZeneca.
Jim assists outplaced executives in starting their own businesses and provides sales and marketing consultative services to self-employed professionals and small professional service practices.
Jim is also a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter.

Civic Activities
Jim has served as a registered marketing consultant and member of the Business Volunteers for the Arts advisory board for the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia, contributing pro bono sales and marketing services to the Kardon Institute, the Theater Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, Orchestra 2001, Latin Fiesta, as well as the Council itself. He has also served as an executive committee member and treasurer of the ACLU of Pennsylvania in support of freedom of thought and expression and the first amendment. Jim also served on the faculty of the World Press Institute briefing international journalists on US political institutions, customs, and practices. The WPI's mission is to promote and strengthen press freedom throughout the world.
