When Avangrid Networks, Inc. and its affiliate Central Maine Power decided to submit a proposal for Massachusetts' competitive solicitation for clean energy generation and the associated transmission, they turned to Pierce Atwood for assistance. Since then, a multidisciplinary team of Pierce Atwood attorneys has taken the lead on preparing and submitting the winning proposal, negotiating key agreements, obtaining all federal, state, and local permits and approvals, and ultimately defeating in court two ballot initiatives targeting the project.
Construction of the New England Clean Energy Corridor resumed in August 2023, clearing the way to bring around-the-clock clean hydropower to the New England electrical grid.
