Firm Attorneys Co-author “Insights” Article on Maine Internet Privacy Law for One Trust DataGuidance

In this recent and timely article, former firm privacy partner Peter Guffin and firm associate Ariel Pardee discuss and analyze Maine’s new internet privacy law against the backdrop of the broader privacy landscape in the United States.

The law, which governs the use and disclosure of customer information by broadband internet access service providers (BIAS), is the first such state law since Congress repealed the FCC privacy rule in 2017. Peter and Ariel discuss the challenges to the constitutionality of the new Maine law, and address the many uncertainties as to how the law will be enforced.
