Newell A. Augur Joins Pierce Atwood as Government Relations Counsel
Pierce Atwood is pleased to welcome Newell A. Augur as counsel in its Government Relations Practice Group.
Newell has nearly 20 years of experience in Maine in the fields of government relations and administrative law, and has cultivated long-standing relationships with state government officials and other policy leaders. His experience includes designing and executing his clients’ legislative strategy, enlisting and organizing stakeholders, serving as spokesperson for press events, and monitoring initiatives that affect client operations.
In addition to representing businesses, nonprofits, and other clients before the Maine Legislature and state agencies, Newell has led three successful statewide referenda campaigns, and served as legal and strategic counsel for several others.
Newell’s background includes founding Augur & Associates, a boutique law and government relations firm, clerking for a U.S. District Court judge in the Western District of Texas, and working as a criminal and civil litigator in New York City. He was also director of legislative and public affairs for the Maine Department of Human Services where he was responsible for all aspects of the Department’s media strategy and oversight of legislative initiatives affecting human services programs.
Newell graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School, and received his B.A. cum laude in Government/English from Georgetown University. He currently serves on the Yarmouth, Maine school committee and is active in youth sports programs.
