Pierce Atwood Attorneys Participate in Legal Workshop for Start-ups and Entrepreneurs
Firm attorneys participated in the Young Professionals Organization workshop, “Forming Your Business Entity and Protecting its Intellectual Property,” held at Fisher college in North Attleboro, Mass. Participants were presented with different considerations for forming a business, and how to protect their ideas and other intangible property. Tom Dunn, YPO’s board secretary and an attorney in Pierce Atwood’s Litigation and Construction Practice Groups, was on hand to moderate the discussions.
In the presentation concerning forming a business, attendees gained valuable insight into the different types of business entities, their ownership requirements, structures, tax issues, and the pros and cons of each. The IP discussion focused on the differences among patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights, how to obtain them, and the issues to consider when protecting a business’ intellectual property.
