Pierce Atwood's James Erwin Appointed to the Board of Trustees of the University of Maine System
Congratulations to Pierce Atwood partner James Erwin on his appointment to the Board of Trustees of the University of Maine System. He was nominated by Governor Paul LePage and confirmed on September 6, 2012 by the Maine State Senate.
The Board consists of 16 members. Members are appointed for a five-year term and may be reappointed once. The Board has full legal responsibility and authority for the University System. It appoints the Chancellor and each University President, approves the establishment and elimination of academic programs, confers tenure on faculty members, sets tuition rates and operating budgets, and more.
Mr. Erwin leads Pierce Atwood's Employment Group. He advises employers on a wide variety of workplace issues, and he has extensive state and federal litigation experience in a wide range of substantive areas at the trial, appellate, administrative and arbitration levels. His clients include healthcare and education clients in the non-profit sector as well as private employers across a range of industries. He is a Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers.
