Resolving Controversies – Best Practices: Jon Block Speaker at COST 2018 Spring Audit/Income Tax Conference

Pierce Atwood tax partner Jonathan A. Block addressed how businesses may tactically position and manage their daily corporate operations to prepare for imminent state income tax audits and controversies to help avoid unnecessary costs, disruptions, and expensive litigation, as well as increase overall tax department efficiency. Also discussed was contemporaneous documentation policies in order to better substantiate the facts related to a business’s state income tax filing positions, and the potential opportunities available to businesses undergoing audit. Presenting with Jon was Robert Carleo, a director at Deloitte Tax.

According to its website, COST, the Council on State Taxation, is a nonprofit trade association consisting of nearly 600 multistate corporations engaged in interstate and international business.  COST's objective is to preserve and promote equitable and nondiscriminatory state and local taxation of multijurisdictional business entities.
