Sara Murphy in Portland Press Herald in Case Seeking Equal Treatment on Behalf of Frye Island and its Residents
Pierce Atwood attorney Sara Murphy recently argued on behalf of the town of Frye Island and its residents in the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, challenging a Maine state law singling out Frye Island for uniquely prejudicial treatment with respect to the town’s right to petition for withdrawal from Maine School Administrative District No. 6. The case raises important and novel statutory and constitutional issues relating to the rights and obligations of Maine municipalities and their residents, and is another example of the many types of complex and high stakes litigation handled by Sara and her colleagues in the litigation group.
